Lunch/Cafeteria Program

The school cafeteria is maintained as a vital part of the health program of the school.  The cafeteria now uses computers to track prepayment for meals and for charges.   You may prepay any amount for the cost of the meals and it will be deducted as the student comes through the line.  You will be notified when this prepayment is running low.   You may prepay as much and as often as you wish.

The student may only charge twice on this computerized system.  If a student has charges and you send money to prepay for meals the charges will be automatically deducted first.  If a student forgets their money or meal and already has two charges, you will be contacted by phone to see if you can bring money to school.  No student will ever go without a meal because they forgot money or their lunch if we are aware the situation.

Parents, we encourage you to come and eat lunch with your child any day.  However, under the system's new wellness policy you are not allowed to bring in food from a local fast food restaurant.  Federal Regulations prohibits carbonated drinks such as (coke, Pepsi, etc.) being brought into the cafeteria during lunch.  A fruit drink is acceptable.  If your child brings a carbonated drink to school for lunch, it is possible that it will be taken up and he/she will have no drink unless they purchase milk from the cafeteria.

The cost for meals is as follows: (Prices may change after publication) These prices are approved for the school year 2007-2008.

Student Breakfast- $1.50 a day
Reduced Student Breakfast- $.30 a day.
Adult Breakfast- $1.75 a day.
Student Lunch- $2.35 a day
Reduced Student Lunch- $.40 a day.
Adult Lunch- $5.00 a day.
Adult Special Meal- $6.00 a day.
Ice Cream is available for $.60 (1 ice cream only per student may be purchased).
Extra milk carton- $.50                                   Extra juice (4 oz.)- $.30
Extra milk 8 oz. plastic bottle - $.60

A computer system manages lunch transactions. The following information outlines some details in regard to operation:

  1. The process works like a bank account system.
  2. If a student has money on account, it can be used for hot lunch or breakfast.
  3. Ala cart account is separate from the Breakfast/Lunch account.
  4. Notices will be sent when the account money runs low or is depleted.
  5. Checks should be made payable to Clyde Riggs Elementary cafeteria.
  6. Only two lunch charges will be allowed. Students will call parents at that time to make them aware of the charge. Students will not be allowed to purchase extras such as ice cream if they have charges outstanding.

Free and reduced lunch applications are available for those families who qualify. Forms may be picked up in the office.
