General School Information

1.      Ø       The school board encourages parents and other citizens of the community to visit schools for the purpose of keeping informed of school programs and services, and also for the purpose of showing support for school activities.  Students may not bring visitors to the classroom without special approval by the principal.  Middle and High School students will not be allowed to visit on Exam Days as this is considered a full day of school.

2.      Ø       All visitors, including parents, will be required to report to the school office when entering the building and sign a logbook.  Authorization to visit elsewhere in the building or on the school grounds will be determined by the principal or his designee.

3.      Ø       Visitors’ passes must be kept with you while on school grounds.

4.      Ø       In order to maintain the conditions and atmosphere suitable for learning, no other person shall enter onto the school grounds or into the buildings of the school during the hours of student instruction except students assigned to that school, the staff of the school, parents of students and other persons with lawful and valid business on the school premises.

5.      Ø       The principal or his designee has the authority to exclude from the school premises any persons disrupting the educational programs in the classroom or in the school, disturbing the teachers or children on the premises, or on the premises for the purpose of committing an illegal act.

6.      Ø       Law enforcement officials may be called if the situation warrants such measures.

7.      Ø       If you need to see a teacher or one of the office staff, please call in advance to make an appointment so the educational process will not be disrupted.

8.      Ø       The office staff will take telephone messages when there is an emergency or when it is essential for a student or teacher to receive information.  Students and teachers will not be called out of class to the phone.

9.Ø       The building will be open at 7:00 a.m. with bus duty personnel on duty at that time.  Students are not to be left unattended before 7:00 a.m.  All students should be picked up by 3:00 p.m. unless staying after school for a certain activity.

2.      Ø       Students should be dropped off in the morning at the doors closest to the cafeteria.  Students will be released to their classroom beginning at 7:30 a.m.

3.      Ø       Breakfast will be served daily from 7:00 to 7:35 a.m.  No allowances will be made for late arrivals.

4.      Ø       Classes start at 7:40 a.m.  If your child arrives after that time, he/she must come to the office first to receive a tardy slip before going to their classroom.

5.      Ø       The bus rider dismissal bell rings at 2:40 p.m.  Car riders are dismissed 2:40 p.m.

6.      Ø       Students are expected to go to special classes in an orderly manner under the supervision of the classroom teacher or other staff member.

7.      Ø       Bookstore supplies will be sold every morning in the bookstore beginning at 7:30 a.m.

8.      Ø       Report cards will be issued six times during the school year.

9.      Ø       Students and teachers are expected to help keep our school building and grounds clean and neat.

10.Ø       Students are responsible to all adults in the building, just as all staff members are responsible to all students.

11.  Ø       No gum, candy, or glass drink bottles should be brought to school.  Students are not allowed to bring carbonated drinks (cokes, etc.) to the cafeteria at lunch.

12.  Ø       Play toys and other items should not be brought to school unless requested by the teacher.  Jewelry and other valuables should not be brought to school and we are not responsible for any lost items.

13.  Ø       Students are responsible for the condition and care of all textbooks assigned to them.

14.  Ø       School closing due to inclement weather will be announced on TV and radio stations.  Students should know in advance where they are to go if school closes.

15. Ø The principal may administer corporal punishment.  Corporal punishment will only be used as a last resort when other discipline techniques fail.

Clyde Riggs has designed a school safety plan.  Each classroom will have a copy of the safety plan and different drills will occur throughout the school year related to this plan.  All drills should be treated as a real emergency for the safety of all students and staff.
